Autism isn’t a political debate, It’s my most tender reality. ⁣ I wrote this song in response to Dr. Steve - Who diagnosed Luna with autism as if it were a terminal illness, despite me clearly communicating my joy and acceptance of being gifted a child on the spectrum. ⁣ ⁣ I thought I wrote it for myself, but after witnessing the most horrific and cruel comments since the misinformed “announcement” currently being used to distract and further divide humans - I see that it’s so much more.⁣ ⁣ It’s for the guy who responded “sorry your family is ret*rded” in response to me sharing my experience of learning I’m autistic after six years of autism education inspired by the many similarities between me and my daughter.⁣ ⁣ It’s for the mothers who are being made to believe we did something wrong, causing our children to be born wrong.⁣ ⁣ It’s for the families pressured to “cure” the very thing that makes us who we are.⁣ ⁣ Maybe it’s even for the endlessly misrepresented, devalued, and silenced autism community.⁣ ⁣ I don’t want a cure. I want support. I want a nap. I want a world that understands what it means to share space with autistic people - with love, patience, and humanity.⁣ ⁣ If you need a moment to exhale into tenderness, the full song, Glass Figurines, is linked in my bio.⁣
